CrossFit in the US is almost always sold as an unlimited monthly membership, but a lot changes from one box to the next: the price, the contract length, whether you must take an intro course before joining classes, what a visitor pays and even how often you are billed. That is why two “$200” memberships can cost different amounts by the end of the year.
We read the price lists of 11 boxes in 10 cities and looked at everything: memberships, limited plans, class packs, visitor rates, intro courses and hidden costs.
Unlimited membership: box by box
Adult prices read on each box’s website on October 2, 2026, sorted from the lowest. Where we work out a monthly price ourselves, we say so.
| Box (city) | Month to month | With a contract or paid up front |
|---|---|---|
| CrossFit Fenix (Perrysburg, Ohio) | $150 | $1,500 a year ($125 a month, our math) |
| East Dallas CrossFit (Dallas) | $180 | $165 on 6 months, $150 on 12; up front $900 for 6 months or $1,680 for 12 ($140 a month) |
| Chicago Strength (Chicago) | $190–230 depending on location | $162–196 a month paying 12 months up front |
| CrossFit Central Houston (Houston) | $205 | month to month only |
| 8nine CrossFit (Miami) | $209 every four weeks | — |
| Patriot CrossFit (Arlington, Virginia) | $240 | $685 for 3 months, $1,299 for 6 months up front |
| CrossFit DC (Washington) | $239–259 depending on location | — |
| Persistence Athletics (Seattle) | $89 a week or $325 a month | the weekly plan can be paused |
Watch how you are billed. 8nine CrossFit charges every four weeks: 13 payments a year, about $226 a month rather than $209 (our math: 209 × 13 ÷ 12). Persistence Athletics in Seattle bills weekly: $89 a week is about $386 a month (89 × 52 ÷ 12), more than its own $325 monthly plan. In exchange, the weekly plan can be paused.
If you train less: limited plans and class packs
| Box | Limited plan | Class pack |
|---|---|---|
| 8nine CrossFit (Miami) | $79 for 1 class a week, $149 for 2 (every four weeks) | — |
| CrossFit Central Houston (Houston) | $180 for 3 classes a week | 10 classes for $200, valid 1 year |
| Patriot CrossFit (Arlington, Virginia) | $195 for 9 classes a month, $215 for 13 | 10 for $270 ($27), 20 for $500 ($25), 30 for $690 ($23) |
| CrossFit DC (Washington) | $209–229 for 12 visits a month | 5 for $140, 10 for $275, valid 90 days from first use |
| Chicago Strength (Chicago) | — | 10 for $250 ($25); 20 for $400 ($20) at River North only |
| Persistence Athletics (Seattle) | $69 a week for 2 classes, $79 for 3 | 5, 10 or 20 classes at $33, $32 or $30 each, no expiry |
Limited plans save less than you might think: at Patriot CrossFit, 9 classes a month cost $195, just $45 less than unlimited. Class packs suit people who train irregularly, but check the expiry: CrossFit DC’s 10-pack lasts 90 days.
Training as a visitor: drop-ins and weekly passes
Dropping in at a box in another city is common among CrossFitters. Almost every box asks for experience: CrossFit DC wants at least three months of CrossFit, CrossFit CE three months of training, and CrossFit Verve and CrossFit Central Houston sell their passes only to people who already do CrossFit.
| Box | Class or day | Several days |
|---|---|---|
| CrossFit Fenix (Perrysburg, Ohio) | $25 a class | $55 for seven days |
| 8nine CrossFit (Miami) | $25 a day | $69 a week |
| CrossFit Verve (Denver) | $25 | $75 a week |
| CrossFit CE (Chicago) | $25–30 a session | — |
| Chicago Strength (Chicago) | $30 | — |
| CrossFit DC (Washington) | $30 | — |
| Patriot CrossFit (Arlington, Virginia) | $30 | $99 a week |
| CrossFit Central Houston (Houston) | — | $55 for 3 classes within 7 days |
| Persistence Athletics (Seattle) | $35 for a 90-minute session | — |
If you stay more than two days, the weekly pass almost always wins: at 8nine CrossFit it costs $69, less than three single days at $25.
The intro course before you join classes
Many boxes will not put you straight into a group class if you have never done CrossFit. First they ask for an intro course (On-Ramp, Foundations, Elements) or a one-on-one session with a coach. Budget for it in your first month.
- 8nine CrossFit (Miami): a required one-on-one session for newcomers, a one-time $99.
- Chicago Strength (Chicago): a one-on-one Elements session for $99, free with the 3-month intro; required if you have less than three months of experience.
- CrossFit DC (Washington): a $199 Welcome Plan, up to a month including the four Elements classes you must finish before joining.
- Patriot CrossFit (Arlington, Virginia): a $349 Foundations program.
- East Dallas CrossFit (Dallas): no required course; an optional prep course of two one-on-one sessions costs $230.
Trials and intro offers
- East Dallas CrossFit (Dallas): a week of unlimited classes for $7.
- Chicago Strength (Chicago): first class free, a first unlimited month for $99, three months for $495.
- CrossFit Central Houston (Houston), Persistence Athletics (Seattle), Patriot CrossFit (Arlington, Virginia) and CrossFit Sanitas (Boulder): a free trial class or session.
The costs that are not in the price
- Payment fees: Chicago Strength adds 3.7% for credit cards and 2.5% for ACH bank payments.
- Notice to cancel: 30 days at Chicago Strength, 7 days in writing at CrossFit Central Houston.
- No refunds on prepaid terms: at Chicago Strength, prepaid months are not refunded and can only be frozen for injury or illness.
- Four-weekly or weekly billing: it changes the yearly total, as shown above.
- Competitions: the CrossFit Open, the yearly online competition, is paid separately to CrossFit. The 2026 edition ran from February 26 to March 16.
Many boxes do not publish prices
Several boxes, especially in big cities, do not put prices online: they ask you to book a trial or a consultation first. CrossFit Sanitas in Boulder, for example, only says its memberships start around $7 a day and sends full pricing on request. It is not necessarily a bad sign, but if you want to compare boxes, ask for the price in writing before the trial.
What you will spend in a month: an example
We take Chicago Strength’s Logan Square location, which publishes drop-in, class pack, monthly and prepaid prices. The math is ours, assumes four weeks in a month and leaves out payment fees.
| Frequency | Drop-in ($30) | 10-class pack ($25) | Monthly | 12 months up front |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Once a week (4 classes) | $120 | $100 | $210 | $179 |
| Twice a week (8 classes) | $240 | $200 | $210 | $179 |
| Three times a week (12 classes) | $360 | $300 | $210 | $179 |
The monthly membership beats the class pack from about nine classes a month (210 ÷ 25 = 8.4, our math). The annual prepaid plan saves another $31 a month but locks up $2,142 up front with no refunds.
When a single class is the better deal
At Chicago Strength’s Logan Square location, the $30 drop-in costs less than or the same as the $210 monthly up to 7 classes a month. Once a week you spend $120 instead of $210, with no 30-day cancellation notice (our math). Remember that almost every box expects some experience for a drop-in.
CrossFit without a membership on FlexDropin
On FlexDropin you can find boxes and functional training gyms that sell single classes: you see the price each box sets before you book, and you pay only for the workout you do, with no membership. It is useful when traveling or if you want to try several boxes before choosing one.
